The race to Net Zero is real
The International Energy Agency (IEA) just published their CO2 Emissions in 2022 report stating that global energy related Co2 emissions grew by circa 1% in 2022, reaching a new high of over 36.8GT.
We at Intertek are committed to achieving Net Zero by 2050 and I am pleased to share that in 2022 we reduced our Co2 emissions by 8% thanks to the excellent initiatives that our teams have put in place in each of our operations.
At Intertek we manage our Co2 emissions like every important metric, with goals in every operation for scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions and we monitor the progress we make every month.
That’s why at the end of 2022 our Co2 emissions were significantly below 2019, and I would like to thank all of my colleagues for their genuine commitment to Net Zero.
Our colleagues also help our clients to scope their Net Zero emissions and validate the progress they make year after year to achieve their Net Zero goals.
A lot of progress has been made to create the right level of awareness and commitment among all nations in the world to achieve Net Zero.
The clock is ticking however, and we all urgently need to do more to get to Net Zero!
I implore regulators to create a mandatory carbon emissions reporting system with well-defined indicators, published every year, by every organisation, private or public, in every city and every country.
Getting a “Net Zero Cockpit” for the entire world with precise data by country, city and company would create more transparency, which in turn will create accountability.
The race to Net Zero is real.
Time is not on our side.
The world needs to move faster – much faster.
